Weiner's Floor statement on passage of House Health Care Reform Bill
“There are honorable people on both sides of this debate, but there are moments that come along and they come along about every generation or so that make it clear why this side of the aisle are Republicans and why we're Democrats. In 1935, when there was the Social Security Act and we decided we weren't going to allow 30percent of seniors to slip into poverty, Democrats proposed, Democrats passed, Republicans opposed Social Security.”

Weiner said, "It is outrageous for pharmaceutical companies to charge New Yorkers two, even three times as much for the same drugs as Canadians. This shows why we need to provide better coverage and extract more savings from our health care system. A strong public option will provide choice and competition and lower costs for millions of New Yorkers depend on prescription drugs for their health, and sometimes, for their very lives."
